Today, Dave and I had to make a really tough decision. Our dog has been steadily going downhill and she's to the point where she can no longer consistently support the weight of her hindquarters. She's also stopped eating real food and is so emaciated, you can see all the bones in her skeleton. She's almost sixteen years old and is a border collie and she's lived longer than the average border collie. We fear she's in pain and she can't continue this way because she's going to wind up breaking a limb, so today, we made the very awful decision to have her euthanized tomorrow morning. It's tough, but what was even harder was telling Kira tonight what is happening. Dave and I are going together to do this tomorrow while Kira is at school. She doesn't want to see it and we respect her decision. Needless to say, there's sadness in our house tonight.
