Hair Cut Day!

I've needed my hair cut for about three weeks now, but with everything going on with  my dad, I've had to reschedule the appointment a couple of times.  This afternoon's the day and in about an hour, the bush will be thinned!  I have fine hair, but I have a lot of it and when it gets too long, it tends to revert back to my big hair 80's days. Not good. Not good at all.

Return of....THE HEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah, the hen is back and this time it is better than ever in sweater form.  Kira did not approve of my sweater today.  I think my love of the animal sweater is not shared by my beloved nine year old.  Too bad!

Turkey Trot - Happy Thanksgiving

It's becoming a family tradition to haul our butts out of bed early on Thanksgiving morning and head into downtown Miamisburg for the annual Turkey Trot five mile race.  Dave runs in the race and Kira and I walk in the one mile "fun walk".  This year, our one mile fun walk turned into about 3-3.5 miles because of where we had to park and walk to the race and then the turkey in the lead golf cart led us astray during the walk causing us to walk even further than planned.  It was freezing out too, even though we were extremely bundled up.

People deck themselves out for this race in various turkey themed apparel.  This year, I wore a turkey hat.  Yes, I walked out of the house looking like this. In my defense, I came home and cleaned up in a more traditional, holiday themed outfit!

Bumming Around

Since we're having a staycation this week, today's activity is bumming around.  Kira and I ran some errands this morning and then went to Hobby Lobby to purchase some outdoor decorations for Christmas.  We bought a new Christmas tree yesterday and I put that up this afternoon and Dave is going to bring in the rest of the decorations from the barn later today so I can decorate the tree.  I went for casual warmth with today's outfit to fit in with our plans for the day.

Colorblock and Plaid

We're on vacation this week, so I'm going completely casual.   Today, Kira had a birthday party at one of her friends houses and we went and bought a new Christmas tree.  Kira picked it out.  It's a pre-lit white tree.  I'm not too sure how I feel about a completely white tree, but since we're doing the tree mostly for her, I caved.    Should be interesting!

Isle Go Fairly Along

I am continuing my love of the fair isle this season.  I found this sweater on ebay of all places.  It is very warm, which is great because it is freeeezzzing in Ohio this week. On a whim, I paired this with a gingham shirt from the Gap and I'm tickled with how it turned out!

Orange Explosion

I was very very very very cold when I woke up this morning, so my outfit today reflects that fact.  I'm wearing an oxford shirt with oranges all over it, a chambray oxford shirt and this very bright orange sweater today.  I was still cold.  I'm not sure how I'm going to make it through the next couple of months!!!

All Hail Navy Jackets

I gotta tell you, these pants are wild, but when paired with a conservative blouse and a navy blue jacket, it tones them down considerably.  The shoes admittedly were a bit over the top, but I had to wear them today!

Sour Face

I knew after I took this shot this morning that my expression was really goofy.  I just didn't realize it was THIS goofy!!

I love cobalt blue because I think it goes with almost anything.  When my new super on sale skirt from Banana Republic came (before the self imposed ban on shopping), I knew it would match my blazer from Talbots that I got last season.  I decided to go all out and pair it with a cobalt floral shirt, just for fun, and then tacked on a super shiny silver belt and an over the top brooch.  You can't tell from my facial expression, but I was really pleased with how this turned out.

I am really loving fair isle sweaters this year.  When I saw this one in a Talbots catalogue, I headed out to the store and purchased it.   This purchase for the record was prior to my self imposed shopping ban.

Happy Birthday!!

Today is my birthday!  No matter how old I get, I always like my birthday and I feel it's my special day.  It isn't about the presents, it's about the fact that I'm alive and well.  It's about being grateful for being given another day to be with my friends and family.  Even though this birthday is bittersweet, I still am grateful for the time I have had and the time I still hope to have.  I woke up this morning to birthday hugs and greetings from the family and that just made my day.  My aunt called to check on me and also expressed her birthday wishes.  She even sent me an extra card just because she figured I needed a little extra special treatment today.  Then, there's all the well wishes from my friends and other family members.  I am so very blessed to have such good friends and a family who go out of their way to make me smile.

Now, enough with the sappy. I took today off of work and went on a shopping tear.  It was down right ugly on the MasterCard, but it was so very very much fun.  I also managed to finish both Dave's Christmas and birthday gifts and I'm really excited about what I got him, so I hope he likes it!  My birthday shopping spree was so bad, I took my fun charge card out of my purse and have put it away until after the holidays.  Starting tomorrow, I'm going to try to not shop for me unless I need it.  We'll see how long it takes before I crack.

Hello

Ohio is in the middle of getting it's butt kicked by Mother Nature, so I took the opportunity in the lull between the storms to go outside and take some shots.

Hope everyone in the path of today's storms is safe!

Saying Goodbye

My father passed away today.  He was surrounded by family and passed peacefully after a very long, very awful battle with cancer.  He will be missed and there's a hole in my heart that will never be filled.

Goodbye daddy

I promise, I'll be back to my normal posts in a little while.  Be patient with me.

Sporadic

Sorry for the sporadic postings.  Things are a little hectic right now.

Anyway, this skirt looks like it could be dangerous if you ran into a small child who's learning to zip and unzip things (trust me if you've ever played with a three year old - they love to do this).  However, the skirt only unzips about halfway down (phew).
