There Is A Reason Why....

I am dressed like a freakin' Christmas tree today on purpose and Kira told me, "You look ridiculous."  There was a very good reason why I went over the top today and that's because the flute choir I play in had a holiday performance tonight at Dayton's tree lighting and we were told to dress festive and festive threw up on me.  I also wore reindeer ears for the performance, but I'll spare you that.

The family was home during my shoot this afternoon and they all decided it would be "fun" to photo bomb my blog shots.  You can see, they all seem to be having a blast terrorizing me!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  Sorry for the lack of postings this week, but we've been on vacation and have been really busy.

Hey, guess what????  We got a CAT!  There's been a hole in our lives since we lost our border collie last year and our schedules are too hectic to get a dog, so Dave decided we needed a cat.  We went to the pound yesterday and picked out the most beautiful three and a half year old kitty who had a rough start in his life.  His previous owners abused and neglected him and his voice box was irreparably damaged.  The poor thing cannot meow and it comes out very raspy.  He also has a heart murmur.  We seriously debated whether or not to take his challenges on, but everyone deserves a home and we decided that home was ours.  So far, it's going well!!!!

New Glasses

You may think I'm insane, but eye examination day is my most favorite day of the year because it means new glasses.  Yes, I buy glasses throughout the year too, but getting them from the eye doctor is extra special because I get to try on a ton of pairs.  I'm now rockin two new pairs;  one with glitter (pictured) and a slightly more sedate pair from Tory Burch that has mint green stems and a light tortoise shell around the lenses.  Yay yay yay!

Sassy

The skirt I wore to work today is technically a Spring skirt and it was technically 20 degrees outside today.  Yeah, whatever, I liked it with the sweater.

I am getting very tired of my footwear limitations this week.  I broke the top bone of my ring finger toe and I can't wear anything that compresses the foot or is heeled because it hurts too badly.  My podiatrist told me to wear "stiff soled shoes" until it heals, but he also knew that wasn't going to happen.  It will just take longer to heal!

Happy Birthday to Me!!

Today is my 44th birthday.  44 on paper seems so old, but I don't feel old and I certainly don't think I look old, but I could be kidding myself on that one!  My day started out with the security guard at work singing Happy Birthday when I walked in.  He is such an amazingly nice person and really started out my day on a happy note!  Then, one of my co-workers gave me a birthday banana (literally, the fruit).  I love bananas and eat one at breakfast and lunch everyday and it was extremely thoughtful!  My brother called and serenaded me at work, Kira and Dave called to wish me well on their way to school/work and I received so many email and Facebook messages wishing me a good day that I walked around wearing a smile most of the day!  Plus, my mom serenaded me tonight.  I am so very blessed with many thoughtful people in my life!  Topping things off, Kira and Dave gave me some pretty nice gifts and Kira picked out a new flute bag for my church music because I unexpectedly outgrew my old flute bag this past Sunday.  Kira's gift almost made me cry it was just so thoughtful!

Here's hoping for at least 44 more!

Evil Step Stool

Let's face it.  I don't subscribe to the "less is more" theory.  I never have, never will.  I like clothes and I like to have a lot of clothes.  Because I have so much stuff in my closet, I have a fairly decent size step stool always sitting in there so I can reach things on the top shelves.  Normally this isn't an issue.... until yesterday.

I was getting ready yesterday morning and I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing and I tripped. Nothing new in tripping, I'm a bit of a klutz, but left foot smashed into that step stool and I heard a "SNAP".  I then felt the pain and a little bit ill.  I hobbled over the bed, writhing in pain and knew I was in trouble.  I've broken many many toes in my life and I knew one or more toes were done for.  After I could breathe, I hobbled to the couch and taped all of my toes together because I knew at least one of them was broken, but wasn't sure if I took out two or three of them.  Last night, when I unwrapped them to take a bath, my ring finger toe was black and purple.  Yep, broken.  Its two neighbors are slightly bruised, so I think they survived the incident.

Most of my shoes have pointy toes, so this is going to be an interesting couple of weeks on the footwear front.  I tried on a couple of pairs of shoes last night and they seemed to be ok.  I guess I'll be taking gym shoes with me to work this week in case I can't stand it!  At least I can laugh about it!

I'm Biased

I have been hanging onto this outfit idea for quite some time because it hasn't been cold enough to wear the turtleneck with a wool blazer.  That is, of course, until today.  Thanks a bunch polar vortex.
While the skirt is unusual and the shoes are out of control, I think keeping the top very basic helped make this an extremely professional outfit.  Plus, I just felt good all day.

I went into work late today because of a dentist appointment and my darling daughter photo bombed one of my shots (see the end!)  She'd kill me if she knew I put this out there, but you get what you get when you photo bomb me!

Twofer

Did you know, yesterday was International Accountant's Day?  No?  Neither did we until last Thursday.  Of course, this deserved a celebration and we got a casual day ate cake!  Yeah CAKE!  AWESOME!

In the Gap

The majority of my outfit today is from the Gap.  I chuckled to myself when I was getting ready this morning because as I put each piece on, I said in my head, "Gap.  Gap.  Gap.  Gap."  It would have been 100% from the Gap, but I was cold and went with the wool J Crew blazer instead of my red cotton Gap blazer.  So close Gap.  So very close.

Orange Plaid

I kind of forgot I had this blouse, but I ran across it in my closet over the weekend and thought, "Why not?"  While the colors trend towards a Lifesavers variety pack, I really liked how well they went together with the mustard color blazer.  I was happy all day wearing it!
