The Dog and I are Going to Have Words

It was bad enough that a thunderstorm woke me up at 5 this morning (on a Saturday - the nerve), but the dog decided to start licking things about that time and until I decided to actually get up around 7 this morning.   I love the dog, but come on, go back to sleep!!!!!!!!

I didn't realize that my shoes matched my purse until we left the house this morning on our way to Kira's guitar lessons.

Bright and Preppy

Yeah, I went over the top today.  Don't judge.

I may have mentioned a few times that I love stripes and that I love bright colors.  When you put the two together it is a must have acquisition for me.  Throw in bracelet that matches the buttons on my shirt and I start to shake with excitement.  Add in some matching nailpolish and it's on baby...it's on.

 Aren't these little buttons cute????
It doesn't show up too well in my photo, but the bracelet actually has little anchors on them. Amazingly enough, it didn't drive me nuts today.  I thought it might because I wear bracelets on my right hand and it tends to get in the way of the mouse, or annoys me when I'm taking notes in meetings.  I'm happy to say that this little thing stayed on all day!!!!

Green Candy Striper

I was actually a candy striper my freshman year in high school.  I worked at a local hospital delivering flowers and lunches to patients.  It taught me that I did not want to work in a hospital, but I retained a love of stripes.  I found this shirt at Brooks Brothers over the weekend and had to have it.  I tend to stay away from faux double shirts, but this one struck my fancy.

I had an interesting thing happen during a meeting at work yesterday (of course,  not related to work).  A co-worker who in the past has given me the impression she's criticizing my outfits asked me where I shop.  I rattled off the top five or six places and then asked her why.  She said she liked my clothes and was just curious where I shopped at.   Huh, didn't see that one coming.

Well, I'm off to wake up a sleepy Kira because she has one more day of mom taking her to daycare before daddy takes back over.  I hope she is more pleasant this morning than yesterday.  She was angry that the sun was up.  Stupid sun.

Have a great day!

White Pants Black Dog Don't Mix

I am eating breakfast at home this morning because I'm taking my daughter to daycare this morning and our border collie keeps rubbing against my leg in search of any cereal that may have dropped.  It's driving me nuts because she's shedding and my were white pants are covered in black dog fur. Yuck.  What a way to start the day.  She's also staring at me, which is a bit disconcerting at 5:55 a.m.  I keep telling her to quit it, but she isn't quite understanding me.

I'm hoping I also don't regret my outfit choice today.  It's supposed to be really hot.

Prep Club

It took all of a day and a half to knock me off my vacation high. Most of the day went well, but it didn't end well.  I will have to listen to my advice to Kira "Just because today was bad doesn't mean tomorrow will be bad".  Come on positive attitude.

Back At It

Well, after a week off, it was finally time to go back to work.  It was a really busy day topped off with a really busy after work as I rushed off to Kira's gymnastics right after work and then ran to another appointment.  Back to the real world!!

I was a little worried I'd burn up at work in my double tops, but it was freeeeezzzzing in there today.  My skirt is from Loft, but it's really old.  The sweater and shirt are from J Crew.  The sweater I scored at the J Crew Store in Santa Monica on sale!!

My nails are Bikini So Teeny from Essie.  Kira and I really got a kick out of the name! The bracelets are from Etsy and Banana Republic.

Abe Lincoln....Vampire Hunter

We went to the movies last night to see Brave.  Dave had to leave the theater to get Kira another pair of 3-D glasses and when he came back he tells me "Abe Lincoln with an axe is standing in the lobby".  Oh yeah, need a photo with that.  So after the movie, Dave points him out again and I asked if he would be willing to take a picture with me.  Amazingly, noone in my family wanted in the shot. Pardon my many layers, it's freezing in movie theaters and I tend to dress in layers so I'm not miserable.
I'm road testing these shoes from Zara today.  I try new shoes out at church to see if I can tolerate wearing them for long periods.  If they can't pass the church test, I don't wear them to work.

The last time I wore this peplum blouse from J Crew, I paired it with a striped skirt and I wasn't happy with the results.  I'm much happier with this more subdued pairing.  The pants are very very very old from Banana Republic and I haven't been able to fit in them in years.  It just proves you should be careful what you part with!
Kira is insistent when taking my photos to include the accessories.   My nails are Mojito Madness from Essie, bracelet is from Tiffanys, watch is Movado, and my wedding ring is actually my mother's original wedding set and is over 40 years old.  Dave reset the diamond in it for our tenth anniversary (story for another day on how that one went down).

Here's the ironing I've done so far this morning....
Here's what I have left to do for the week - ugh.  I try to iron at least enough outfits for the entire week with spares so I don't have to deal with it during the week.  I've done this for years and it works out really well from a time management persepctive.  The accountant in me occassionally creeps into my personal life!
Kira thought you might like to see the pattern on my blouse.

Have a wonderful Sunday!

Errands

I'm about to embark on my Saturday errands.  Half boring, half fun.  Like picking up the drycleaning and trolling through Banana Republic.  I also need to convince myself to work on some education credits for my CPA recertification, but ugh, who wants to do that???? Kira is having a friend over this afternoon, so I need to be back by early afternoon to supervise, but I don't think that'll be a problem because it's supposed to be super hot today and I really don't like hot weather.

Kira saw me taking my picture in the mirror and stepped in to take over.  The dog decided to join the fun and you can see her in the background.  She's a fifteen year old Border Collie who is slowly going insane and is addicted to milkbones.

Happy Saturday everyone!

This Outfit Lasted All of Maybe 10 Minutes

I bought this top from the Limited a while ago and decided to bust it out today for my last official day of vacation.  Kira wanted to go on the daycare field trip today, so I got up early, got ready and had her snap a photo in her room.  By the time I got home, I was so uncomfortable, I changed into a t-shirt.  I should have listened to the online reviews because while cute, the top is uncomfortable because the material is just scratchy.

Believe it or not, Kira's room is significantly cleaner than normal.  The three of us spent a lot of time yesterday cleaning it because she's having a friend over tomorrow.  Her room is rainbow mixed wiht peace signs and yes, I painted the rainbow stripes.  The other two walls are hot pink and hot orange.  It's a lot of visual stimulation, but Kira loves it.

Have a happy Friday!

Radio Silence Ends!

Hi, we're back from vacationing in sunny Los Angeles.  The weather was beautiful, but a bit chilly compaired to Ohio (low 70's versus in the 90s).  On our last day there, we hunted down the Hollywood sign along with about a thousand other tourists!
This was at the end of our first day after traveling all day and playing at the Santa Monica Pier after arriving.  The jean jacket and t-shirt are from Loft, the pants are from the Gap.  My necklace is from Tiffanys.
I'm in love with my neon khakis from the Gap.  I had to buy these twice because I lost weight after the first purchase and decided I liked them so much, I bought them in a smaller size.

After I finished packing, I noticed I have a ridiculous number of striped t-shirts, oh well!
My companion decided to road test the shower in street clothes during this shot.  Sweater is from Talbots, shirt is from Banana Republic, and denim is from the Limited.
This was Kira's first look at the ocean and her first time playing in real sand.  She didn't really care for it!
We went to California Adventures and Disneyland.  My brother loves Disney, so I kept sending him photos of our day to make him jealous.  Yeah, sibling rivalry really doesn't stop when you're an adult!
My sweater is J Crew, t-shirt and jeans from Loft, shoes are from Sperry, purse is Vera Bradley.  The purse was an absolute delight to travel with.  I wind up being the family alpaca on vacations, and this purse fit a lot of things and was comfortable to carry around all day.  Disneyland is in the background.
My lovely hubby.  It was 90 degrees at Disneyland and by this point, we were a bit fried.
Kira at the aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach.  Miss Fashionista's outfit is entirely from Justice.
We took a whale watching cruise on Monday.  Dave got really sea sick and Kira fell asleep from the rocking of the boat.   We didn't even see any whales!
Traffic in LA is a nightmare and while we were stuck in the snarl, I was emailing a co-worker at work to tell her about our vacation.  This was the "in case you miss me" shot!
Cheesing on the red carpet at Universal.
Kira and her new "minion".  She fell asleep on the way back from Universal Studios.  She tried to talk me into buying her a minion twice this size, but I convinced her it wouldn't fit in the suitcase and her dad would kill me.
Now we're home and back to reality.  An oil change, trip to Target and Jenny Craig, cleaning and laundry.  Oh well.
Shirt is Gap, jeans are from Loft, belt is from Target, and necklace is from Etsy.
I've got a couple more days of relaxation before it's back to the fast pace world of Accounting.  I'm going to enjoy each day because work will be here before I know it!  It's off to read a book!
