Vintage Brooches and Chucks

When I was getting ready this morning, I stopped for a second and thought about just how old my brooch was on my sweater.  It's vintage and is probably from the 1960's.  Didn't seem that old until I calculated that it's probably close to 50 year's old.  The amazing thing is, it's in perfect shape.  I bet the designer didn't envision it being worn with pink Converses.

Happy July 4th!  We were racing to beat the rain taking these pictures and we just made it!  Phew!
I saw my jacket in a Kate Spade add and loved it, but didn't love the price.  They marked it down and then took 25% off the markdown price and I struck.  Kira doesn't like the jacket.  I told her it's a good thing she doesn't have to wear it then because I do like it!  Have a great holiday!

Who'd Of Thought?

I recently bought both the jacket and the shirt on major sale and they came in the mail the same week.  When I laid them out on my bed to put them away, I thought, these two things kind of go together.  The patterns are completely opposing; there's wavy lines on the shirt and the jacket is   gingham, but I think the solid blue frame on the shirt pull the two together.  I never would have come up with this had my "peanut butter not met my chocolate" (old Reese's cup commercial reference - sorry).

Switch Up

Today, I'm posting yesterday's outfit and today's.  The jacket I wore yesterday is quite old and it's actually a lilac and crème stripe pattern.  The shirt and skirt in the second outfit are also quite old, but fit now (yippee!)  I've been trying to wear more stuff sitting in the back of the closet so I can justify my acquisitions.

Vintage Flower

Ever wear an outfit and feel like you're rockin' all day long?  That's how I felt in this outfit.  I think it's professional, yet colorful enough to express my non-accountant like personality.

I went through a phase where I purchased all sorts of vintage enamel brooches.  I love how they dress up a blazer, yet are quirky.  I have so many of them and then I forget to wear them.  This blouse is a bit tricky to wear since it's silk, so I sorted through all my pins and came up with this one.  I think it's from the '60's, but it's still in great shape!

Vacation Day - Off to Ikea!

I'm not good at relaxation.  I never have been.  So, I took my third day off of the year and instead of lounging about, I went to Ikea to shop for an inexpensive floor runner for our foyer.  We've had this really ugly carpet down across the ceramic tile since Kira was a baby as a landing pad in case she fell.  She's nine now...she'll survive and it's time for something pretty!  It still had to be inexpensive because we have a dog, but I found something really pretty that would work and I'm very pleased that it is now gracing the floor of my foyer.  It looks so much nicer in there now!

The Crash

My computer is quickly going downhill. It's only a matter of time before it crashes beyond repair.  Tonight, I spent a chunk of time backing up my files and making sure pictures are saved out to the cloud.  It made a horrific screeching sound last night to announce it's downhill slide and tonight it took a half hour for it to do its check disk thingy before it would come up.  I really don't want to buy a new one right now because I'm saving for a new flute, but I may have to.  Sigh.  I'm going to ride this thing till it no longer comes back to life, though.   Fingers crossed that it can wait a couple of months to die!

What Should We Call It? I Dunno!

Kira pretty much did my blog for me tonight.  She imported the photos, cropped them, pulled them into the blog, and sized them.  When asked what we should call today's post, she said, "I dunno."  She also indicated that one of the pictures made me look fat, so she wouldn't use it in today's posting. She's got my back!

Comfy Lap

You may not realize this, but apparently I have a comfy lap.  So much so, there is a small child stretched across it eating a ring pop as I type.  It's just one of the many services provided by this mom.  The ring pop was a bribe payoff for doing extremely well at her soccer game this morning.  Her team won their first game this season and Kira was one of the five girls who scored a goal.  While they haven't had the best season, it's been exciting to watch how much they've improved over the past few weeks.  Plus, they are all having a blast and that's really what matters!

I'm not feeling my outfit today, but we had to be at the soccer fields by 8:30 this morning and I'm getting my hair cut in an hour.  I really just threw something on this morning, snapped the shots and went out the door.  I'm going for sweats in about 2 hours cause that's just how I roll!  Happy Saturday!

A Car Is Coming....

It's awkward taking pictures of yourself.  While taking these shots this morning, there was a car getting ready to turn on our street and I thought, "Oh great, just what I need".  I had already waited out my neighbor and watched until he left to head out front, and all I needed was three minutes outside to get this done.  Apparently, that wasn't going to happen.  Anyway, my goofy facial expressions are a direct result of feeling self conscious as the cars zoomed by.

My jacket today was saved from the donation pile at the last minute and I'm glad didn't let it go.  I've had it for years (it pre-dates Kira) and I love the piping on it.

Today's outfit inspiration came from the Boden U.S.A. catalogue.  While none of my clothes today actually came from Boden, I do own a fair number of stuff from there.  Boden trends towards colorful, quirky clothes that really fit my personality.  Their catalogues are full of inspiration, too!

What Pack Do I Have?

Kira and I were watching House of Anubis and a commercial for Hip Hop Abs came on.  The whole commercial had people talking about having six pack abs. When the commercial was over, Kira comes over to me and asks, "What pack do I have?"  It was really cute!

All I Wanted To Do Was....

After lunch, I decided to move my more Springish capris from the back of the closet to a more accessible shelf and move the sweaters on that shelf to where the capris were in the back of the closet.  Sounds easy enough, however, it took two hours and I wound up sorting through all of my sweaters that are on two shelves and moving around all the capris.  I hauled out a bag of clothes to donate and I still am out of space in there.  I should stop shopping, but we all know that's not going to happen.  This whole event started because I'm picking out my clothes for the week and want to wear more Springy clothes the first half of this week because it's supposed to be warm.  It amazes me how I create more work for myself.

We are enjoying a rare day of having nothing to do.  No outside commitments, no grocery shopping, nothing.  And, it is absolutely beautiful in Ohio today.  It's about 70 degrees and the sun is shining.  Dave and Kira are building a soccer goal and wound up moving it outside after discovering if they finished it in the house, there was no way it was fitting through the door.  Thankfully, they figured it out before getting it completely built!!!
