Vacation Day - Off to Ikea!

I'm not good at relaxation.  I never have been.  So, I took my third day off of the year and instead of lounging about, I went to Ikea to shop for an inexpensive floor runner for our foyer.  We've had this really ugly carpet down across the ceramic tile since Kira was a baby as a landing pad in case she fell.  She's nine now...she'll survive and it's time for something pretty!  It still had to be inexpensive because we have a dog, but I found something really pretty that would work and I'm very pleased that it is now gracing the floor of my foyer.  It looks so much nicer in there now!

Happy Easter

Happy Easter from my family to yours!  We went to church this morning and now we're off to a family gathering where there will be a MEGA egg hunt for the kids, the college kids and the 20 year old set.  It's wet out today, so we'll see how many people wind up muddy!

Full disclosure - I wore this sweater yesterday.  I'm wearing it again today. It was ironed.  It matched my outfit. Don't judge.

I am so very stressed out this week because Kira's big slumber party is this weekend and I thought I was going to be able to take Friday off from work and I can't do that now.  I rearranged my whole week in about 5 minutes today and I have tasks slated for each night that I have to accomplish in order to get all this stuff done.  I brought this on myself, but things are starting to take shape and the house is looking pretty darn festive.

Snow Day

It snowed yesterday.  A lot.  Since I work far away from  home, I packed two briefcases full of stuff Tuesday and logged into work from home yesterday.  Kira was off school, so she spent the day doing homework and I spent the day logged in to work.  I didn't even get dressed until 2 in the afternoon, but in my defense, I started work at 5:30 in the morning and worked a full 8 hours before breaking for the day.  Scary thing with the snow, it's already melting and the whole world is just wet.  Really wet.  We're supposed to have thunderstorms on Monday, so our weather is truly truly whacked out right now.

 

Thought I'd share my snow day attire.  Attractive, huh?

Upgrade

Dave gave me a fancy, new camera for Birthmas specifically to upgrade my blog photos from the iPhone camera.  Birthmas is when you want a big gift for Christmas, but it's more than what you'd ordinarily spend, so you combine birthday gifts and Christmas gifts to get a nicer Christmas gift.  Thus, the evolution of Birthmas.

I've been playing with the camera all week, but haven't felt well enough to do too much with it.  Yesterday, I went to the camera store and the nice people showed me how to set the timer since the instruction book doesn't have a lot of information in it.   The camera folks weren't surprised by that fact either, which has me a bit worried since I have no idea what I'm doing.  Dave got the thing connected to the tripod last night and I ran around setting the timer, running in front of the camera and taking stupid photos for fun.  Just for laughs, I've included a few of my practice shots in this post.

The camera is a "smart" camera, which means it has a built in Wi-Fi connection, which Dave specifically got me so I could upload pictures straight to my Skydrive.  However, the camera is way smarter than me and I can't figure out how to get it to connect to the server.  I could look in the instruction book, but that will prove pointless.  So, my auto uploads will have to wait until the hubby has time to see what I'm doing wrong.  I'm at least proud of myself that I got the things to upload to the computer.  Baby steps......

These are my practice shots.  It is super hard to run past the tripod without knocking it over and pose before the timer goes off. I'm surprised I didn't break a limb last night.

Ugh

 We had to run back to the eye doctor today because unbeknownst to us, the temple length on Kira's glasses was longer than my own glasses and it curved around her entire ear.  Ridiculous.  And, I had to take off work early AGAIN to take care of the issue.  We went to a pediatric opthamologist and it was his eyecare center, so they should have known better.  Guess who caught it?  Target optical.  Kudos to them!

Black Friday

In honor of black Friday and the fact that there is no way I'm venturing out shopping until very much later today, I decided to post a pix without my glasses AND to put on some lipstick.  Fancy...I know.  Kira is standing here telling  me I should have worn black to go with my blog title.  Oh well, missed opportunities.

I stopped wearing lipstick my senior year in high school when my then boyfriend, now husband, refused to kiss me in between classes if I was wearing lipstick.  So, bye bye lipstick.

I paused to take a peek at the pictures and noticed I was squinting.  There's a reason I wear glasses!!!
