What A Night

When I got to gymnastics tonight, the other mom's there quickly informed me that Kira wasn't feeling well.  I look down onto the floor and she's sitting holding her side at her coaches' feet, so I caught her eye, mouthed, "Are you ok?" and she takes off running off the floor to see me.  When she gets to me, she bursts out bawling, says her tummy hurt and wouldn't let me touch it.  This wasn't at all normal activity for gymnastics since she loves it, so I knew she was in pain.  I pulled her out of practice, took her to urgent care and I'm happy to report, it's nothing serious...just a pulled muscle.  I typically don't overreact like that, but she was crying so hard, I knew it hurt and I was worried it could be something serious.  She's doing better now, albeit a bit cranky, and we're winding down the evening.  What a night!

Ringer

I was so happy with my shoes today until I stood on my feet for several hours this afternoon and stopped feeling my toes.  I couldn't wait to get home and throw on my slippers, but we had to go to Kira's school after work for open house and was on my feet for even more time.  My calves hurt.  My toes hurt and my feet hurt.  But my shoes are really pretty!

Gingham Pants

It's hard to see in the pictures, but my pants are actually gingham.  The inspiration for this outfit came from the sales guy at the Gap this weekend.  He wore a grey vest over a checked shirt with a shiny grey tie and I loved it!  I came home and immediately pulled this out to try to mimic that look.  The shiny shoes were my inspiration and I gotta tell you, you don't see a lot of shiny silver shoes when you work in accounting!

Bumblemint

Green is my favorite color and I especially enjoy mint green.  Lands End's spring line came out with this beautiful green sweater with bumble bees on it and I had to have it.  I've been reliving my childhood through clothes adorned with animals and this sweater fit right in.  I didn't notice until I was steaming it that the bumble bees are also on the sleeve.  Ohhhhhhhh looooovvve!

Hummingbird

It took me a while to figure this out, but J Crew Factory sometimes has the exact same thing as the normal store, but after the normal store sells out of stuff.  Usually, the pieces in the Factory store aren't in the same fabric as what was offered in the normal store, but who cares!  I fell in love with this skirt pattern on the normal J Crew site, but wasn't willing to part with that much money to make it mine.  Even on sale, it was ridiculous.  When I ran across this lower priced, cotton version at the Factory store, I was thrilled.  I bought the skirt and the matching pants!

Five and a Half

Five and a half hours is the amount of sleep I got last night thanks to a rousing slumber party we hosted to celebrate Kira's birthday.  At twelve thirty in the morning, the girls were shooting stuff of Kira's balance beam using her nerf rebelle cross bow and bow and arrow.  Shortly thereafter, my husband got out a box of glow sticks and transformed our family room into a freakin' little girl rave party complete with a flashing disco ball light and techno pop music.  At 1:30, I told the girls to settle down, which they did until I rounded the corner and they started back up again.  At 2:00 this morning, they fell asleep and I think I fell asleep around 2:30 and was up a little after 7. I'm getting way to old to do this and I feel it in every inch of my body today.  The girls had fun, though, so I'm sure I will get talked into doing this again at some point.  For now, I'm going to just sit here in peace, work out and then go to bed....early.

Goodnight.

The Big Day

My daughter turned 10 last week and we're celebrating today with a small slumber party.  In about an hour, my house will be overrun with little girls and I'm enjoying the peace and quiet before it ends.  I took yesterday off work to decorate and get things ready and I think it looks pretty cute in here.   I'm the "bad" parent who doesn't think carrots and apples are appropriate for a party, so I've got ice cream, chips, cookies and about 10 pounds of candy ready to go.  I think as long as they don't do it every day, it's not going to kill them to splurge. I'll shut them off at 9 tonight, but until then, it's anything goes!

I'm sure I'll look like hell in my blog post tomorrow because I'm getting way to old to stay up all night!!

St Patty's Day

I live in Dayton, Ohio and one of the local universities in town, the University of Dayton, ranked number one for the best St Patrick's Day parties.  People start celebrating at four a.m. drinking green beer and at some point today, a couch will be burned in the street.  Gotta love the college kid parties!

Twirly Bird

I bought this skirt at J Crew several weeks ago, but it's been way too cold to wear it.  Today, it was in the 30's and even though it's still cold, I decided I was tired of waiting.  The skirt is amazing.  It has a fluidity to it that other pleated skirts are missing and I think it's because of the color tipping on the pleats.  I paired it with the french hen sweater because I was feeling childish and whimsical this morning!
