Ta Da!

I love love love this outfit!!! I received numerous compliments on it today and most people thought it was a dress.  It wasn't!  It was two shirts, a skirt and a belt.

Koi

Kira was reading about goldfish over the weekend and surprisingly, then can live for up to 20 years and the oldest documented goldfish was 40 years old.  We have three goldfish currently; Brittany II, Blackie, and Spot.  So far, we've had Spot and Blackie for quite some time and Brittany II replaced Brittany the First who passed away several months ago.  The  "Goldfish Project" has been going on since Kira started first grade because she was upset when we took the kindergarten class turtle back to school after babysitting it all summer before she started first grade.  I didn't promise her the goldfish - Dave did, but the goldfish have become my responsibility and don't tell Dave and Kira, but I kind of like them.

So, in honor of  my fish friends and their longevity, I busted out my koi pin this morning.  I have an impressive number of vintage as well as newer brooches and I go through phases when I want to wear them.  I'm really rockin' the zoo today because I busted out my giraffe shoes as well.

Sort of Preppy

After a very long five day weekend, it was back to the grind today.  Now I have two people on maternity leave and until the vacant spot is filled in our department, I'm working my old job and my new job concurrently.  I just want to dive right into my new job responsibilities, but the old job just keeps tugging me back in.  Hopefully by August, I'll be able to leave the old world behind and move on to greener pastures!

Running Short

I don't like wearing shorts, I don't look good in shorts, and I only one one pair of them. I'm a capri kind of gal in the summer because I'm always cold and I'm vampire-like pale.  Kira asked me this morning why I just don't get a tan and the answer is...I can't tan.  My skin burns and goes back to being pale and a very long time ago, I just gave up trying.  It's not worth the effort and I know other people my age who did tan when we were younger and they now look leathery.  So there!!!(I'm sticking my tongue out now!)
Today, my husband ran in a 5k race and we wanted to go to support him.  It was 80 degrees at 8 a.m. this morning and that's just too darn hot to wear capris, so I busted out the shorts.  I think my one and only pair is a little too big, so I may have to replace them.

Here's my darling husband before he got all sweaty and icky.

We sat at Welcome Stadium in the blazing sun and even though we were wearing sunscreen, we brought the umbrella along to keep most of the rays off us.  We were one of three people in the stadium with umbrellas and I just don't care what other people think.  The other two umbrellas were not rainbowy and ruffly.

No papparzzi allowed.
Pringles made the wait go much smoother for Kira!
Here's downtown Dayton on this sweltering morning.

Coral and Dots

I never know what to wear with coral.  It seems like such a friendly color and then I have no idea what to do with this.  I got the inspiration for this outfit from an internet add.

Saturday

We are all going to kill each other today.  Each one of us is testy in our own way.   Kira is overly exhuberant and is currently doing gymnastics moves across the house.  She fought with her dad over cleaning (tears, screaming, etc) and Dave and I fought over pulling weeds and mulch and the order with which that activity needs to go down.  Thankfully in a couple of hours, Kira heads to the gym for open gym and maybe when we all regroup, we'll be a happier family.  It's supposed to be in the mid 90's today, so maybe we're all testy from the heat.

My Closet is Clean....For Now

I just spent the last day and a half cleaning out my closet.   Yes, it took that long and I hauled out at least 6 large bags of clothes to donate and I still don't have enough space. I'm not sure how I fit it all in there, but when I took it all out, it didn't all go back in because it didn't fit the second time around.  I guess it's because I'm actually trying to get to what I own.  I also bought about a 100 plastic shoe boxes and while not all my shoes are in the little boxes (some are in 2 space bags underneath the jacket side of my closet), I'm happy with how the organization of them has turned out.

I organize my closet in sections, by type and by color.  The top left is the blouse section. The bottom left houses all the jackets and the top right is my cotton oxfords, skirts, pants and dresses rack.  The accountant in me creeps into my daily life and it can be scary.

I told Dave I'm going to try to adopt a one in one out policy to try to avoid having this happen again.  We'll see how long that lasts.  Oh, and not a single, solitary thing in this closet is my husband's.  This is all mine!

Have a great holiday weekend! I'm off to read a book!

Closet Cleaning Day!

I'm taking a five day weekend for the Memorial Day holiday specifically to work on cleaning out my closet.  It's that bad and needs help.  I've already drug out the "oxford" section and have that laying on my bed to go through.  I estimate it will take me a solid day and a half to get things straightened out, but it will be really nice when I'm done.

Of course, after I drop Kira off at school, I'm headed to Cinci to go shopping before I dive in fully.  I'm sure I'll acquire something and that won't help the situation.  I need to adopt a one in one out policy, but I don't think I'm ready to do that yet!  I'm excited because they have a H&M and  J Crew and we don't have those stores in Dayton.

Happy Thursday!

The Dog

Our dog is a fifteen year old border collie named Misha. She's a great dog, but as she ages, she's going insane.  First, she's addicted to milkbones.  No kidding, she has a serious problem.  She will let me sleep until six on the weekends, but I better get up because she's going to start scratching and throwing herself at our bedroom door to get to the milkbones.  And since she doesn't have opposable thumbs, her humans have to get up to satisfy her craving.  My husband said "just ignore her" until she did it to him a couple of weekends ago and she wouldn't let up.  Now he sees my point.

Sorry again about the craft room pictures.  My husband is traveling for work and I'm taking Kira to daycare in the mornings.  I don't feel comfortable taking the photos at work because there will actually be people there when I arrive later this morning.  I feel like a dork doing this in front of others.

My Morning is Not Starting Out Well

I don't like days that start out like this.  I twisted wrong in the bathroom and my back let me know it didn't appreciate the way I moved, then I decided that heels were perhaps not the most appropriate footwear for the day in honor of the back, and made a last minute decision to change what I was wearing to work today.  As I was getting ready, my allergies started acting up and just one eye is watering and it won't stop.  Now, my eye makeup is toast.  I go to find my denim jacket and it has decided to take a hiatus, so I pull a new cute jacket out of the dry cleaning bag and they did a lousy job ironing it.  I do have time to iron it this morning, but based on how my day's going so far, I'd probably burn the house down.  So, I decided to wear the jacket I wore on Sunday because at least it's ironed.  Oh well, maybe it will be a spectacular day at work.

I do realize that these things are minor annoyances and in the bigger scheme, I'm alive and everyone's healthy and I'm very thankful for that.  I really do wish my eye would stop watering, though.

Hawaiian Punch

This skirt always reminds me of my grandmother.  She had the coolest drink glasses that were narrow at the bottom and widened at the top and had red stripes around the bottom.  They were probably from the '40's or the '50's and were real glass, so we weren't allowed to drink out of them.   She also had these really cool aluminum glasses that we were allowed to drink out of and she'd always have a supply of Hawaiian punch ice cubes on hand for when we came over.  We'd put them in the cups and chop them up with forks.  I spent quite a bit of time at my grandparent's house growing up, so I ate a lot of Hawaiian punch ice cubes.

I haven't fit in this skirt for a couple of years, but I just couldn't get rid of it.  I tried it on this weekend and it fit again!  I'm glad I didn't get rid of it because it just makes me smile when I see it and brings back happy memories of my childhood.

The last picture should be titled "who wore it better" my daughter, or my Jenny Craig consultant.  Both own the exact same pair of shoes from Target!

Not Playing Well In the Same Sandbox Today

We are all a bit irritable today.  Especially my cranky eight year old.  You would not believe the issues I had getting her to take just one picture for my blog today.  The comments "if you didn't have a blog,  you wouldn't need a picture, and I wouldn't have to take it, so stop doing your blog", "quit watching me", and several other comments along those lines.  I think my husband is ready to kill me because I am replacing the shoe boxes in my closet with plastic see through boxes and I'm pitching all the paper boxes.  I dumped them all into a trash bag and he went back through the bag and is breaking down the boxes.  I hate breaking down boxes because they usually put up a fight, so I don't do it. I figure since I'm putting out the trash this week, who cares how I threw them away?   In a couple of minutes, we're all headed off to church.  Maybe that will cause us to play better together this afternoon.  I doubt it, but hope springs eternal!

Sparkly Soccer Mom

Saturday is always busy at our house.  Kira had guitar lessons this morning and then we raced off to her soccer practice.  These pictures were taken at Hauer Music by my lovely husband while we sat outside Kira's practice room. At soccer, I noticed I was the only mom wearing sparkly shoes.  Oh well, the other mom's are missing out.

Some Days, I Gotta Look Like An Accountant

Today, I am attempting to attend an insurance accountant luncheon (yes, such things do exist).  I needed to tame my love of color so that I blend in with the others.  I really had to think about what was already ironed that was conservative enough that I'd feel comfortable wearing to this thing.
Sorry about the craft room pictures.  My photographer is currently still asleep and I will once again be arriving to work later than normal today, so I had to resort to this.

Hope everyone has a happy Friday!

My Photographer is Still Asleep

I typically get up early during the work week, around 4:50 a.m. because I have a 45 minute drive to work and I like to get to work before everyone else, so I shoot to get there by 6:30 a.m.  Today, I have to take my daughter to before school care, so I'm letting her sleep until 6:30 and I'll head into the office a little later.  I always feel like a dork taking pictures at work when there's actually people there, so I snapped these in my craft room this morning.  Kira is soundly asleep and will be awakened with a song in about 25 minutes.  If she doesn't arise quickly, she will then subjected to the ice cube treatment.  I have an 8 a.m meeting, so she's gotta get up!
