We Ran Out of Food

We grocery shop weekly, but somehow we ran out of food this week.  Not completely, but not enough to fix a meal and Kira got Wendy's for dinner tonight.  She kept telling me "It's ok mommy, I know it isn't healthy, but we don't eat this way everyday, so it's just a treat."  Dave stopped at the store on the way home and bought yogurt, orange juice, potato chips and Diet Coke.  I'm not sure what we're eating for lunch tomorrow, but we have orange juice and Diet Coke, so WE WILL SURVIVE!

This is my last navy blue and green sweater for the week.  I believe I still have more navy/green combos back in the closet, but this is all I ironed for the week!

My Shots Need Some Work

Ok, so maybe 5:30 in the morning isn't the best time for me to take pictures.  I snapped awake at 3:45 and by 4:30, I just decided to get up and go into work.  So these shots really were taken at 5:30 this morning.

I'm not sure how I completely missed the mirror.  My first shot, I knew I was off, so I moved.  Apparently, I didn't move enough.  I realize, it's pitiful, but it's kind of amusing in just how bad it is. The even sadder thing, I checked the pictures on my phone to see how they looked.  I guess I really wasn't as awake as I thought.

Oh well, I'm getting a new camera for Christmas, so hopefully my shots will improve after I learn how to work the thing!  In my defense, the mirror is resting against Kira's bedroom door and I'm trying to be quiet.  Also, don't you love the Phi Mu on the mirror?  I actually am a Phi Mu alumna, and I've had this mirror since high school.  I'm surprised there's no penguin stickers still stuck on it.  I can't bring myself to scrape it off the mirror.

Only the Best

My daughter loves to drink from our crystal wine glasses.  When she's served her drinks in them (orange juice and fizzy orange drink...she is eight), she gets excited and exclaims "Ohhh, fancy!" Tonight, she drank orange juice in them with a straw.  It struck me as extremely funny that my daughter is trying to be so very grown up, but the straw just shows she's still a little kid!

I probably shouldn't allow this...the glasss were a wedding gift, but we should get some use out of the things and she really enjoys it.
It's no stress week at work this week (it isn't working) and today's event was a casual day.  That's why I'm wearing jeans in the middle of the week.  We get free chair massages tomorrow and I think there's snacks involved at some point this week!
No glasses....I can't see you!!  I also wiped off the lipstick right after snapping the shots.  It interferes with the taste of my morning Diet Coke.

Off to work!

Paisley Park

I had to resew all the buttons on my blazer Sunday because they were all coming loose.  Do you know how incredibly difficult it is to match this color purple in thread?  We popped a button off and trucked it off to the fabric store and looked at every single purple spool they had.  Kira actually found the closet match.  She rocks!  I'm not sure I'd repeat this outfit combination, but at least I know my button thread matched!

Vacation is Over

Back to work today.  Yippee.  I decided to dress up in honor of going back and here's the result.
I received a ton of compliments on my little eyeglass pin today.  I love this pin, but forgot I owned it!

Cute, but painful bow shoes!

Colorblocked Sunday

I think I may have an issue with navy and green sweaters.  This is the third one I've purchased this past month and I've convinced myself they are each different enough that they need to be part of my collection.  This one came in the mail yesterday.  I have one I bought last Saturday at J Crew on sale as part of my birthday shopping trip and I bought one from J Crew online a couple of weeks ago.  They are all slightly different, though, thus justifying my acquisitions.   What's odd, I have all three of them planned out in my outfit rotation this week.  I plan about a week or two of outfits in advance, get them pressed and ready to go so I don't have to think about it during the week since we're so busy with Kira's activities and homework.  I've done this for years and it works really well.  Even Dave has started doing this, but he only plans a couple days in advance.

I love the color navy, I always have.  I think it stems back to when we were in college and they drilled into our heads that the only interview suit color for accountants was navy blue.  Back then, it had to be a skirt suit for women, with very little jewelry and minimal makeup because we were told we wanted the interviewer to focus on us, not what we were wearing.  I think times have changed significantly since then, but I wouldn't exactly wear anything neon or leopard print to an interview.  Now wearing that on the actually job is a completely different story.

Saturday

It's not even noon and I'm already tired today.  I had trouble falling asleep and then Sir Snores-a-lot started in about 3:30 this morning.  I moved to the couch, but woke up at 6:30 and then just stayed awake.  Kira's being particularly snarky today too, so I'm sure we'll all be at each other's throats in a couple of hours.  Dave's taking the brunt of it now and I'm hiding.  Not mature, but so very true.

Again, most interesting game in the hall AND I'm not sure what she found so interesting on my leg.

Black Friday

In honor of black Friday and the fact that there is no way I'm venturing out shopping until very much later today, I decided to post a pix without my glasses AND to put on some lipstick.  Fancy...I know.  Kira is standing here telling  me I should have worn black to go with my blog title.  Oh well, missed opportunities.

I stopped wearing lipstick my senior year in high school when my then boyfriend, now husband, refused to kiss me in between classes if I was wearing lipstick.  So, bye bye lipstick.

I paused to take a peek at the pictures and noticed I was squinting.  There's a reason I wear glasses!!!

Turkey Trot

Today, the family trucked it down to downtown Miamisburg for the 34th annual Turkey Trot.  Dave ran in the 5k and Kira and I did the 1 mile fun walk.  There were 8,500 people at this event this morning and downtown Miamisburg isn't that big of a place, so there were people everywhere.  People dressed like pilgrims, people dressed like turkeys and people in turkey hats (where do you even buy a turkey hat?)  It was amusing because if you ran/walked in the 5k, you got the Mayor starting the race with a starter gun, music blaring and encouragement from a DJ.  If you walked in the 1 mile, you got some guy standing at the end of the street who half heartedly waved us on with a "go" and there really wasn't a finish line.  Dave ran buy us on our walk and screamed "hey" to us as he ran by.  Kira and I cheered Dave across the finish line.  Kira and I enjoyed telling Dave how our "race" was started.  Kira does a perfect wave and a lackluster "go" impression.

My hair looks frightful today because it was down right cold at the race and I wore earmuffs.  Brrrr.  I'm still having trouble warming up and it's actually going to be 64 degrees today.  Gotta love Ohio weather!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Christmas Decorations

I spent a chunk of yesterday decorating for the holidays.  Last year, I had major surgery two weeks before Thanksgiving and wasn't able to decorate for Christmas...at all.  I wound up in a major fight with my husband who promised to decorate for me and he didn't do it.  It was ugly.  So, this year I was bent on making sure we decorated.  He pulled in all the boxes for me from the barn and I had at it yesterday.  Everyone helped with the tree because it's too big of a job for just one person.

I also don't own a Christmas tree star, so each year, a lucky stuffed animal is deemed the tree topper. This year, the winner was Perry the Platypus from Phineas and Pherb.  I really like it!
Our obnoxious tree.  I went out today and bought Kira a little tree for her room.  We swiped decorations off the main tree for her tree.  She was thrilled and it looks really cute in her room.

French Hen

We're all on vacation this week, so we took some time this morning and went down to Cincinnati to Entertrainment Junction.  EJ is a large facility filled with model train displays and a fun house for kids.  It sounds lame, but it's actually a lot of fun.

Most interesting game in the hall...again.

Fake inside snow.  Dave swallowed some accidentally and he was not happy.
Mrs. Claus, who lured the kiddies in with chocolate chip cookies!
 Santa
Santa lured the adults in for a picture.  Of course, I bought it.  Dave, also not happy.  He hates having his picture taken!
