Holding On
I'm betting my pants are over 10 years old. I bought them well before we got Kira, which was eight years ago, and I've held onto them because I just like them. They've fit, not fit, fit again, not fit and now fit again. Not sure what that says about me, but I'm keeping them through the next round too.

Parrothood
I am a sucker for clothing with animals on them. When I saw this shirt at Loft, I knew it was coming home with me. Bonus, my jacket from J Crew matched this perfectly and since the jacket is ladylike, it toned down the fact that I was wearing parrots.

Seersucker Layering
I was inspired by Banana Republic to pair my seersucker blazer with colored capris. Then, I went a little over the top and put a bright pink sweater under it and to carry the summer theme, I wore my J Crew short sleeve chambray shirt under the sweater. While I like the color combination, I was honestly uncomfortable all day and the shirt under the sweater puckered making it look like I have a bunch of fat rolls. While I have fat rolls, they aren't quite as pronounced as the pictures make it seem. Looking at the pictures tonight, I also don't like the cut of the capris. I think they make me look hippy. I have trouble with pants because I have a curvy shape and I think I look bottom heavy in most pants I wear. Maybe I'm just having a down day because overall, I'm not satisfied with today's look. Like I always tell Kira, if you have a bad day today, it doesn't mean tomorrow will be a bad day, so I'll adopt my own advice for once!

Happy Valentine's Day!
We had a wear red day to work casual day today. Normally, I don't like clothing related conformity
events, but today I decided to participate. It was kind of fun walking around work today seeing everyone in red and I really think they should have gathered us all up and taken a big group picture!
Red isn't my favorite color to wear since I'm vampire pale, but this jacket from J Crew is awesome. The color is more of an orangey red, the fit is great, the cut is up to date and it matches a ton of stuff in my closet. I bought the exact same blazer in hot pink and cobalt because I absolutely love it. I'm looking forward to pairing more colorful tops under this blue lace shirt. I can't wait to try it with something green!

Winterizing Mint Green
I know it is January, I know it is cold, I know we are supposed to wear darker, more subdued color palettes in the winter, but darn it, I love color, I love pastels, and I adore mint green. Color is my friend and suits my personality because I tend to be a little bit on the perky side. How I dealt with my conflict today was to layer pastels over each other. In my defense, the jacket is pure wool and is quite warm. The sweater and the shirt can be worn all year round. I need to come up with some non-boot, winter footwear that looks good with socks because the ballet flats without socks are quite cold outside.
We spent the afternoon together as a family and went to Scene 75 in Dayton, which is a huge indoor entertainment center. We played 9 holes of mini-golf, went on some spinning bumper cars, Dave and Kira bounced on the bouncy slides, went mini bowling, and played lots of games. I also rode the go-karts and was involved in a bit of a go-kart crash, that I didn't cause, but my car had no brakes and the crash took up the entire race lane, so I became involved in the crash. Noone was hurt in the three car pile up. The entertainment facility has a bunch more stuff to do and it's a lot of fun to go there, but we had to leave to go grocery shopping. Responsibility gets in the way sometimes!

Elivs and My Blogaversary
Today is the one year anniversary of my blog! I've really enjoyed evolving my sense of style over the past year and I appreciate your viewership!
Did you also know that today is Elvis' birthday? I didn't know either until one of my co-workers told me at the copier. Then in an unrelated event, Dave emailed me to let me know they are having a show in downtown Cincinnati next month featuring Elvis impersonators. I really really enjoy Elvis impersonators.
My outfit today in my opinion, was professional, yet totally fun. I bought this dress on eBay last summer for a steal and haven't gotten around to wearing it because honestly, I forgot I owned it. Since I've put a personal ban on shopping for a while, I've been going back through what I already own to piece new outfits together and came across the dress. I felt good all day!

Snowpocalypse
Seriously, when did the Weather Channel decide it was necessary to name snowstorms. Really? Are we going to start naming thunderstorms in the summer too? And why are the snowstorm names fearsome. It's snow. If we must name it, let's name it fluffy fun names like Sparklefrost. Snow is fluffy and Sparklefrost is fun. But nooooo, gotta name it something stupid like Draco. If it's got to be fearsome sounding, how about Icezilla 2012? Noone asked for my input when they decided to name these things.
Here's the Weather Channel's reasons for naming snowstorms:
Naming a storm raises awareness.
Attaching a name makes it much easier to follow a weather system’s progress.
A storm with a name takes on a personality all its own, which adds to awareness.
In today’s social media world, a name makes it much easier to reference in communication.
A named storm is easier to remember and refer to in the future.
Really????? You know, when I was little, there was the Blizzard of '78. Yep, that was what it was named and you know what???? If you refer to it as such, people know what you are talking about. OR, the tornado outbreak of '74, or the 1913 flood. People around here also know what you are talking about if you refer to these three events. Type of event...blizzard...year of occurrence.....'78. Type of event.....tornado outbreak....year of event '74. Type of event....giant flood....year of occurrence 1913. Yeah, we know what happened without having to have some stupid name attached to it. And it is even dumber with snow. I'll get off my snowplow soapbox now!

Christmas Decorations
I spent a chunk of yesterday decorating for the holidays. Last year, I had major surgery two weeks before Thanksgiving and wasn't able to decorate for Christmas...at all. I wound up in a major fight with my husband who promised to decorate for me and he didn't do it. It was ugly. So, this year I was bent on making sure we decorated. He pulled in all the boxes for me from the barn and I had at it yesterday. Everyone helped with the tree because it's too big of a job for just one person.
I also don't own a Christmas tree star, so each year, a lucky stuffed animal is deemed the tree topper. This year, the winner was Perry the Platypus from Phineas and Pherb. I really like it!
Our obnoxious tree. I went out today and bought Kira a little tree for her room. We swiped decorations off the main tree for her tree. She was thrilled and it looks really cute in her room.

Thanks J Crew!
My outfit inspiration totally came from J Crew, but only the blazer came from there. I've had the shirt forever and I just bought the jeans at Old Navy.
I'm getting my hair cut tomorrow and I can't wait. It grows really fast and when my bangs get in my eyes, it drives me crazy.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

It was Ironed
I'm ashamed to admit, sometimes my outfit selections are based on whatever is already ironed, or doesn't need to be ironed. Today was one of those days. After watching Olympic diving last night, I had little energy to iron plus, I wanted to go read a book. So, today's outfit is all about what was ready to go in my closet. Voila!
I bought this shirt from Ann Taylor on sale and it is very very very itchy. It's lined, but the organza is poking through the lining. Bets on how long I keep it on today?
Have a happy Saturday!

The Squirrel
Last night, when the cable guy was here and I was working on my CPE, I heard a crash in our living room. I went to investigate and then didn't see anything, so I went back to work. Then I heard a scratching and thud noise coming from the living room. Back in I went and you know what? We have an animal in our chimney.
First step, freak out. Second step, call Dave at Kira's soccer camp. Third step, freak out again.
Dave said "maybe it's a bird", I said "I hear feet", Dave came home and agreed - feet. So, I called the critter control people today and had to take a half day off work to wait for them to get here today. Sure enough, squirrel in the fireplace.
You know what? It's still there. They set traps and left. Great. Just great. I pay them hundreds of dollars to trap the animal and they leave WITHOUT the stinking animal! Then, when I asked where they release the animals, the guy hemmed and hawed and then admitted that they euthanize them.
WHAT???????? I was in tears. I asked, so what happens if after we get him in the trap and we place him outside if one of his "squirrel" friends releases the prisoner. He said if he didn't know, then that was ok. The guy must have felt horrible because after he left, he came back and said he'd release the squirrel for us in the backyard. That's of course, after we catch it. Kira's voting for euthanizing it. Dave's the deciding vote. I hope he does the right thing.
Sometimes life goes weird on you and right now we're in a weird patch.
