Holding On

I'm betting my pants are over 10 years old.  I bought them well before we got Kira, which was eight years ago, and I've held onto them because I just like them.  They've fit, not fit, fit again, not fit and now fit again.  Not sure what that says about me, but I'm keeping them through the next round too.

Miami Vice

I love white blazers, but sometimes when I wear them, I feel like I'm in the Miami Vice days of the '80s.  I especially felt this way all day today and I really should have paired these pants with my trusted navy blue blazer.  I think it would have toned it down because the pants are very polka dotty.

Saturday

I bought this jacket off eBay for a steal and it's from J Crew.  I have a wool blazer from J Crew in this exact same color and it's amazing just how versatile it is, so I wanted a jacket in the same color, but in cotton twill.  Lo and behold, eBay came through for me!  I decided to go completely preppy today and paired this with my green polka dot shirt from Boden.  Boden has such cute, colorful clothes!

All I Wanted To Do Was....

After lunch, I decided to move my more Springish capris from the back of the closet to a more accessible shelf and move the sweaters on that shelf to where the capris were in the back of the closet.  Sounds easy enough, however, it took two hours and I wound up sorting through all of my sweaters that are on two shelves and moving around all the capris.  I hauled out a bag of clothes to donate and I still am out of space in there.  I should stop shopping, but we all know that's not going to happen.  This whole event started because I'm picking out my clothes for the week and want to wear more Springy clothes the first half of this week because it's supposed to be warm.  It amazes me how I create more work for myself.

We are enjoying a rare day of having nothing to do.  No outside commitments, no grocery shopping, nothing.  And, it is absolutely beautiful in Ohio today.  It's about 70 degrees and the sun is shining.  Dave and Kira are building a soccer goal and wound up moving it outside after discovering if they finished it in the house, there was no way it was fitting through the door.  Thankfully, they figured it out before getting it completely built!!!

Darker

Dave helped me get one of my light boxes put together last night and it actually made the rooom darker for these photos.  I think I'm going to have to put together the other two lights and then stage Kira and the dog and see if I can get it any lighter in here.  You'd think a 500 watt light bulb would do the trick, but apparently not.  Oh well.

I had a Tax Board meeting tonight and then rushed home to decorate for Kira's birthday.  I've posted more photos of the chaos for your viewing pleasure!

The box in the left corner is one of Kira's birthday gifts.  They put the name of the company on the box and Kira intercepted the mail before I got to it.  At least she doesn't know what's in the box.

The Tuatara Project

I loved my outfit today.  With the exception of the shoes, it was really comfortable and I received a lot of compliments on the color combination.  The shoes I could have done without.  I bought them on sale at J Crew because I love the bow and I adore silver shoes, but I now know why they were on sale.  They are foot pinching FIENDS. 

After I finish this post, I have to go print out a bunch of pictures of the reptile known as the Tuatara.  Kira has a big reptile project due next week and we have to start on the poster for her presentation.  I sat in the hallway tonight with my camera, snapping pictures out of a book so we can print them out on photo paper.  We're then going to make 3-D grass on the poster so we can have the Tuatara pop out on the board.  I'm not doing the project, I'm faciliating it, so we have to start now because we're running out of time. The flu put us behind.

This is a Tuatara.  It has three eyes.  The third eye is a light sensor.  I'm enjoying third grade the second time around. I'm learning a lot!

On the Mend

Everyone made it through the day where they were supposed to be today.  I went to work, fever and ache free, Kira went to school, fever and ache free and Dave (knock on wood) still hasn't contracted the flu. 

I selected my outfit today for warmth.  I've been so cold over the past couple of days, so I decided to layer up my outfit to head off any possible chill.  I also wrapped myself a chunk of today in a black pashmina because I came to the conclusion that I can take that little blanket to meetings and people don't realize I'm really using the thing as a blanket.  But honestly, who are we kidding?  I've brought a blanket to meetings before.  The thing has polka dots on it too...big ones.  As I've gotten older, I've started caring less about what other people think and more about what I think in terms of stuff like that.  I wish I learned that 20 years ago because it would have made some things much much easier!



The black blur at the bottom of the photo is the dog.  She is very interested in anything I do early in the morning.

Back At It

Vacation is over.  Back to stress.  The sad part is, I missed my desk, I missed my stuff, and I missed my job, so at least I know I'm in the right profession.

The only bad thing about going back to work (besides having to get up at 4:50 in the morning) was it was absolutely FREEZING in the office until about 10 this morning.  I literally had on fingerless gloves for a chunk of this morning because it was too cold to type.  Brrrrrr.

Paisley Park

I had to resew all the buttons on my blazer Sunday because they were all coming loose.  Do you know how incredibly difficult it is to match this color purple in thread?  We popped a button off and trucked it off to the fabric store and looked at every single purple spool they had.  Kira actually found the closet match.  She rocks!  I'm not sure I'd repeat this outfit combination, but at least I know my button thread matched!

Experience the Ohio State Fair

Dave and I love the Ohio State Fair.  We've been going since we were dating back in high school and the fair holds fond memories for us.  There's always something weird and interesting going on at the fair and we try to go each year if the weather cooperates.  Unfortunately, over the past few years, it's been too hot to drag Kira to the fair, so we haven't went.  Saturday's weather was perfect, so off we went!  The fair is one of the top 10 fairs in the country, so it's a pretty big deal in Ohio.

I spent three hours Saturday before we left getting my hair colored and highlighted.  Not for the fair, I'm not that insane, it was just time to do!  Today, I actually wore lipstick.  It's honestly Dave's fault that I don't wear lipstick often.  In high school, he'd refuse to kiss me if I had it on, so I stopped wearing it. Don't judge!

 I truly do embarrass my family.  They are learning to deal with it.  Here's my fair going outfit.  I didn't exactly blend in, but the checks were sort of farm like!

After arriving at the fair, we hopped on the sky glider to ride to the back of the fairgrounds.  Here's shots from the glider.  It was gorgeous out, so there were a lot of people at the fair on Saturday.

A section of the fairground has been taken over by the Ohio Parks Service and they have all sorts of things back there on Ohio history and the geology that make up the state.  Kira and Dave are standing on a map of all the counties in Ohio and they are stepping on the county we live in in the first picture.

One of the many traditions at the fair is the butter cow.  This year it celebrates Columbus, Ohio's 200'th birthday.  Believe it or not, the butter sculptures are a big deal at the fair and attract a large crowd.  I think Kira thinks we're nuts that we drug her in to see this, but it's pretty neat.  The total display – cake, cow and calf – required 1,900 pounds of butter and 451 hours of labor.  The butter cow made its first appearance at the fair in 1903 and took up residence in the Dairy Building when it was built in the 1920s.  The idea of other butter creations joining the cow also comes from the early 1900s, when Ohio State University and the Dairy Processors of Ohio sponsored butter-sculpting contests at the fair.  There was another cow to the left of the cake, but it was too crowded to get a good shot.

Outside of the dairy building, there were a couple of real cows and a baby calf.  My family didn't want to stop to see them until I sadly mumbled under my breath "noone wants to see the real cows" and Dave took pity on me and made Kira stop to look.  I enjoy cows.  I collect cow sculptures and I don't like to pass up the opportunity to gawk at real ones under very controlled situations.  There.  Now you now my dirty little secret.
