Snowpocalypse

Seriously, when did the Weather Channel decide it was necessary to name snowstorms.  Really?  Are we going to start naming thunderstorms in the summer too?  And why are the snowstorm names fearsome.  It's snow.  If we must name it, let's name it fluffy fun names like Sparklefrost.  Snow is fluffy and Sparklefrost is fun.  But nooooo, gotta name it something stupid like Draco.  If it's got to be fearsome sounding, how about Icezilla 2012?  Noone asked for my input when they decided to name these things.

Here's the Weather Channel's reasons for naming snowstorms:

  • Naming a storm raises awareness.
  • Attaching a name makes it much easier to follow a weather system’s progress.
  • A storm with a name takes on a personality all its own, which adds to awareness.
  • In today’s social media world, a name makes it much easier to reference in communication.
  • A named storm is easier to remember and refer to in the future.

  • Really?????  You know, when I was little, there was the Blizzard of '78.  Yep, that was what it was named and you know what???? If you refer to it as such, people know what you are talking about.  OR, the tornado outbreak of '74, or the 1913 flood.  People around here also know what you are talking about if you refer to these three events.  Type of event...blizzard...year of occurrence.....'78.  Type of event.....tornado outbreak....year of event '74.  Type of event....giant flood....year of occurrence 1913.  Yeah, we know what happened without having to have some stupid name attached to it.  And it is even dumber with snow. I'll get off my snowplow soapbox now!

    Phoning It In

My back still really really hurts, so when I got up this morning, I thought forget it, I'm not really going to try this morning.  I probably shouldn't tell you that, but it is what it is.

    Back to School

Well, today I threw my back out.  Did it drying my hair.  That's some wicked hair drying.  Still hurts, too.

    Nosebleed

We were gifted with five free casual days of our choice in the month of December.  Friday's are always casual, so I purposely planned my days so that I could finish out the remainder of the work year in denim, so you'll see me in jeans all week.

I didn't come up with my outfit idea on my own.  I saw a similar outfit someplace (don't remember where) and it stuck in my head as something I'd like to try since I'm swimming in polka dot related apparel.  I'm pleased with how it turned out, but honestly, my sweater doesn't look this vibrant in person.  It's pretty, but not quite as in your face as the pictures would lead you to believe.  However, I think its color is called "shocking pink", so maybe it's just me hoping I wasn't lit up like a Christmas tree today!  Also, my jacket has little tiny polka dots all over it, but it's hard to see in the pictures.

Kira has been very clingy for about a week.  It has nothing to do with the tragic events of last Friday, she was clingy before that point. She slept with me last night and when I was doing my hair, she came in my bathroom, her arm smeared with blood and blood all over her face.  She acknowledges me, heads for the tissues, and says nonchalantly "nose bleed".  Got it.  With a little time and a little saline spray, we got it under control, got her cleaned up and tucked her back in bed.  Her nosebleeds used to freak me out, but they happen so frequently, I've just gotten used to them.  She's pretty good with them too, thankfully!

Countdown to Christmas break - 4 more work days.

    Cheetahs are Attracted to Pink

    Meet Day!

Kira has her first gymnastics meet of the season today (really the second, but she was playing in a soccer tournament with her school at the same time as the first meet).  Not sure how she's going to do, but I hope she has fun.  We'll be there all afternoon and then Kira is volunteering to hold up scores for the next meet, which is right after hers.  She'll be at the gym for about 8 hours today.  I will only be there for four and will be wrapping her Christmas gifts while she volunteers.

    Ugh

We had to run back to the eye doctor today because unbeknownst to us, the temple length on Kira's glasses was longer than my own glasses and it curved around her entire ear.  Ridiculous.  And, I had to take off work early AGAIN to take care of the issue.  We went to a pediatric opthamologist and it was his eyecare center, so they should have known better.  Guess who caught it?  Target optical.  Kudos to them!
