Black and Blue

 

I like to read fashion magazines in the bathtub.  It doesn't work out well for the magazine because inevitably, it either gets dropped in the tub, or water drizzled all over the pictures.  Regardless, it's what I enjoy doing.  So, the other night, I was reading Marie Claire and they had a feature with Tim Gunn and he was discussing if it was ok to wear navy and black together.  He says "yes".  Last night, when I was pulling together today's outfit, I found the shirt/pant combo was missing something and I had this jacket hanging on the bathroom door.  It has black trim, the shirt is navy striped.  I remembered the article and thought, what the heck.  When I was getting ready this morning, I noticed the pants were black, not blue.  They were blue last night and the fairies switched them (that's my story, not that I wasn't wearing my glasses and I can't see!)  I threw my mismatched colors on and walked out of the house.  I was amazed at how well this outfit turned out and I never would have considered doing this before taking more risks since starting this blog.

Return of the Polka

I love this skirt, but when I gained some weight, it no longer fit as nicely.  It would zip up, but it wasn't very comfortable.  So I went out on ebay and found the same skirt in a larger size.  Then, I lost weight.  Today was the first day I've worn the original skirt in a couple of years and I'm pleased to say that it was actually a little big.  I've been smiling all day!

Lilac is a Winter Color in My World

 

I bought these pants on sale at J Crew and believe it or not, they are wool.  I love bright colors in winter because it makes me feel better when it's dreary outside.  I bought similar pants from the Gap in lilac khaki and they should be here by the end of the week, so I'll be set with my lilac for Spring too.

 

By the way, I only made it 24 days with my ban on internet shopping.  It's over, but I found that I'm still not online shopping as much, which is good since I'm seriously out of space in the closet!

Copy Cat

While taking these pictures this morning, I realized that I have worn almost exactly this same combination recently.  Skirt, blouse and sweater are all different, but conceptually it's the same idea. I saw this look in a Banana Republic add and really liked it.  I then tried to piece it together from stuff I already owned since the now failed ban on internet shopping went into place.  When I walked into Banana a couple of weeks ago, they were having a 30% off sale and the skirt and blouse came home with me.  I like the skirt, but it's maybe just a tad too big and it poofs in weird places.  Not horrible, but it does have a pronounced poof.  The online reviews warned me of the poofing, but I didn't listen.  The color khaki tends to wash me out since I have a death warmed over complexion, but the orange offset takes away from the khaki, so I think I can get away with it. If I wear khaki by itself, I get confused for a vampire and noone wants that!

Shop Your Closet

Today's outfit is all stuff I've had for a while. I  rediscovered my vest in my space bag and went on a mission last night to find stuff that coordinated with it.   I wore this vest to death the year I got it (I think it was several years ago), but didn't wear it much at all last year because I forgot I owned it.  It's kind of fun to rediscover stuff in your closet!

Groundhog Day!

Happy Groundhog's Day!  Honestly, this is my favorite holiday because it is just so very silly.  We watched a recap of this morning's festivities from Pennsylvania this afternoon and it was an interesting discussion with Kira on why adults sometimes just make stuff up like this for fun.  By the way, he didn't see his shadow and it will be an early Spring!

I spent some time today thinning the hangers that my skirts reside on and paired them up two to a hanger so I can have easier access to them.  Some would say I should purge some skirts instead of finding creative ways to deal with the crowding, but I'm thinking outside the box today. It worked too!

My outfit today was thrown together from stuff hanging on my closet door that I've worn recently, haven't put away and wasn't terribly wrinkled.  I forgot to iron last night and we were in a rush this morning because of Kira's guitar lesson.  After pulling everything together, we got a call that her lesson was canceled due to the mini snowstorm we had this morning.  Oh well!

Raider Up!

We had a little company-wide celebration today to celebrate 2012 accomplishments.  The theme was sports to coincide with the Superbowl.  I don't normally coordinate my outfits for theme based stuff (I'm kind of funny about that), but today was different.  I bought this t-shirt at a Wright State game a month or two ago and needed a reason to wear it.  My dilemna was, I didn't want to look sloppy. A white denim jacket solved my problem!   My co-workers were amazed that I actually wore a t-shirt to work.
